About the event
Whitherward Farm welcomes visitors to our seasonal Pick-Your-Own Lavender events. We don't care whether you pick the lavender itself or just come to admire the scenery, inhale the relaxing scents, and take it all in. You can bring a nice picnic basket, cut and gather a bundle of stems, purchase products, take *private, *non-commercial, *non-professional photos, and just walk among the blooms if you'd like. You may not find fields with rows upon rows of purple like in France, but you'll definitely enjoy what we here in West Milton, Ohio have to offer!
Admission is free and our lavender is $10 per bunch; purchase as many bunches as you'd like. We'll supply you with premeasured ties within which you can expect to fit 20-30 stems. Parking is on the gravel, and we have a porta-potty available. Don't forget your clippers! We've got a few spares but cannot guarantee you'll get a pair. We're happy to give a demonstration on cutting the stems if you need help.
Come any time during our seasonal Pick-You-Own Lavender event hours Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. We close at 6 pm – no exceptions. We also close during federally observed holidays and Easter. The lavender mostly blooms from mid-June through late August.
You're welcome to purchase any goods we have available, meander the grounds and enjoy the farm, including the barn, fields, gardens, ponds, and surrounding areas. This excludes the interior of the livestock quarters, the pasture, the woods, and the house. No fishing, and absolutely no swimming. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Before you visit, please check the weather and prepare by dressing like a farmer. Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes or waterproof boots with tread so that you'll be comfortable walking in the fields. It can be damp, and no one likes wet toes. If there's rain coming, make sure you bring a poncho or jacket that'll keep you dry. Don't forget to bring your sunscreen, bug repellant, a hat, and something to drink so that you'll be comfortable when the sun shines and the bees are abuzz! Packed lunches, coolers, and backpacks are also welcome.
We have bees, and they're attracted to the lavender. Typically, they don’t bother people unless they feel threatened. If you have concerns regarding the bees or an allergy, this may not be a good activity for you. Bring any emergency medicine you'd need if you've got an allergy to bee stings, as we don't provide first aid care on the farm.
